Concept and Inspiration

“I’ve always been driven to lead change in areas close to my heart: criminal justice, social justice, and environmental justice. This time of year, we celebrate the Harvest season in many ways, honoring traditions and community. I chose Halloween as the perfect moment to express my commitment to raising awareness about climate change. Through this lens, I wanted to channel the spooky, transformative energy of Halloween to spotlight the urgency of environmental issues, blending seasonal mystery with a message for change.”

Tools and Techniques Used

To bring this lens to life, I combined several elements within Lens Studio and beyond. For the snowfall effect, I used a blizzard animation template, creating an eerie, wintry atmosphere that perfectly fits the Halloween theme. The background was crafted in Photoshop, where I layered different Halloween-themed emojis for a fun yet spooky setting. The face mask was generated using an Artificial Intelligence prompt, adding an extra layer of creativity – and it turned out even better than I envisioned! I also added a circular movement effect for dynamic visual elements that add to the overall immersive experience.

The Building Process

Creating the snowfall effect took some trial and error, especially to sync it with the beast’s movements. The result, however, was worth it! When the beast opens its mouth, a blizzard sweeps in, and as it closes, the snowfall halts – a haunting, interactive reminder of environmental shifts.

What Augmented Reality Means to Me

To me, Augmented Reality (AR) is a transformative tool that merges the digital and physical worlds to create impactful, immersive experiences. AR allows me to convey complex issues, like climate change, in ways that are both interactive and engaging for users.

Overcoming Challenges

Bringing this vision to life wasn’t easy. Late nights spent learning the Lens Studio interface and refining my concept taught me resilience. My passion for digital design and desire to create something meaningful kept me going, even when balancing work and studies felt overwhelming. With persistence, I overcame these challenges to make this lens a reality.
